12. Abraham4 Neff (861) (Christian3, Hans2, Hans1). Abraham (861) was born in Lancaster Co., PA, on 3 May 1782. He married Barbara Weaver (862) in Shenandoah Co., VA, on 9 Mar 1805. Abraham (861) died on 18 Aug 1846 in Clark Co., OH, at age 64. His body was interred in Mad River Twp., Champaign Co., OH, in Rector Gard Cemetery.
Abraham Neff is believed to have been born in Lancaster County, Pa. to parents of Swiss origin. He settled in the Shenandoah Valley, Rockingham County, Va. shortly after the American Revolution and was married On March 9, 1805 in Shenandoah County, to Barbara Weaver by Christian O'Mart. Abraham and Barbara migrated to Clark County, Ohio in the spring of 1832 settling in German Township west of Tremont. They traveled the entire distance in a covered wagon pulled by four horses and were about nineteen days enroute. Abraham and Barbara brought their two sons and five daughters with them. Their son-in-law, Samuel Ryman, also accompanied them with a two-horse team and wagon. Abraham owned 235 acres of farmland to the east, south, and west of the small village of Tremont which he willed to his two sons, Adam and Christian, stipulating that they were to make yearly payments to their sisters, as their share of the estate. After Abraham's death, Adam and Christian held a public sale to dispose of their father's personal property. The sale was large and the record of the items sold filled six pages. Many of the items were bought by the sons and sons-in-law, including Samuel Ryman and Abraham Shockey. Abraham and Barbara are believed to have been interred in the Rector Gard Cemetery on the southwest corner of the intersection of Upper Valley Pike and Storms Creek Rd. in Champaign County, Oh. This old cemetery is thought to be on the farm where Charles Rector Sr. settled at the mouth of Storms Creek about 1801. Abraham Neff's Last Will & Testament was probated in the Clark County Common Pleas Court on Sept. 24, 1846; Will Book 2, Page 283, CA1203. The inventory of the estate sale is listed with the will. Christina married John M. Wine, twelve years her senior, who was an Elder in the German Baptist Church. They moved to Nebraska about 1870 and spent the remainder of their lives there. Christina died just a few days after the birth of her infant son, Aaron Franklin (possibly Franklin Elmer) Wine.

George Harrison Shull was an eminent American plant geneticist. He was born in Clark Co., Ohio, graduated from Antioch College in 1901 and from the University of Chicago (Ph.D.) in 1904, served as botanical expert to the Bureau of Plant Industry in 1903-04, and thenceforth was a botanical investigator of the Carnegie Institution at the Station for Experimental Evolution, Cold Spring Harbor, N. Y., giving special attention to the results of Luther Burbank's work.

Shull played an important role in the development of hybrid maize (in the USA, popularly 'corn') which had great impact upon global agriculture. As a geneticist, Shull worked with maize plants. He was interested in pure breeds not for their economic value but for his experiments in genetics. He produced maize breeds that bred true and then crossed these strains. The hybrid offspring of the sickly pure breeds were vigorous and predictable. In short, an ideal economic maize resulted from a project motivated purely to advance science. For his work on maize, Shull was awarded the Public Welfare Medal from the National Academy of Sciences in 1948.

He also described heterosis in maize in 1908 and made a number of other key discoveries in the emerging field of genetics. Shull was the founder of the scientific journal Genetics.

Eva worked for the Dillahunts only a short time and later worked as a maid for a Jewish family named Treblow. Mr. Treblow was an attorney and the family resided in the Overbrook section of the city. The Treblow's child nurse was Grace Clayton who dated Jim Lewis. Grace introduced Eva to Jim and his brother, Bill, who Eva married in 1935. Grace and Jim married in 1936. In 1938 or 1939 Bill and Eva paid $3000.00 cash for a half duplex in Ambler, Pa. Jim and Grace bought the other half. Bill worked for Keasby & Madison Co. in Ambler for 47 years until the company changed hands in 1962 and he was laid off. Eva worked in the school kitchen for 15 years prior to her retirement. In 1962, Bill and Eva sold the half duplex and bought a home on Graystone Rd. in Ambler.

Norman (12) died on 16 May 1968 in Wright Patterson Air force Base, Greene Co., OH, at age 26. His body was interred in Springfield, Clark Co., OH, in Ferncliff Cemetery.
He was a Veteran U.S.M.C. Rick became ill with cancer while stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Station at Beaufort, S.C. about 1963. He was retired from the Marine Corps on disablity and died of cancer five years later. After Rick's death, Barbara moved to California with the children to be near her parents. She later remarried and contact with her and the children was lost. He was Ret. U.S.M.C.
